Hay rack Alternatives. DIY & Affordable.

1. Hanging Basket.
I was lucky enough to pick this one up in my local homebase at a discount for only 86p. But even full price these can be more affordable than hay racks and they hold a lot more, which is good for large herds or greedy pigs.

2. Logs.
I think that these are actually made for hamsters to crawl through but they are actually really good for stuffing with hay. Also because they are made from wood they are good for the piggies to chew on.

In the first picture you can see it tied to the outside
3. Box.
This is a great free option because you get boxes everywhere, either with your deliveries or i like to pick them up in the supermarket because there is alot of choice and they never mind because they only recycle them anyway. You can either tie it to the outside and the piggies can pull the hay through the bars or tie it on the inside and make some holes in it.

Recognize this from my instagram account
4. Cardboard tube.
A Perfect option if you want something small and free. I use kitchen rolls cut in half or thirds and either tie it to the cage or just leave it on the floor. The pigs loved it when they get one of these stuffed rolls and they often shred the tube aswell.

Hope this gave you some inspiration for hay rack alternatives.

Welcome to the new blog.

Hello and welcome to my blog, Brax the Guinea Pig. Although it is named after brax, I have 4 other males; Milo, Travis, Harry and Ernie. I have owned guineapigs for over three years now and after having a instagram account for about 8 months I discovered what a great community there is and decided to start this blog to share more.

I plan to use this blog to share tips I've learnt since owning pigs, dietary information, product reviews, Entertainment/enrichment ideas as well as general advice on caring for guineapigs. However as time goes on some posts may be more popular than others or i might come up with fresh new ideas but for now that's my plan.

Here's to new beginnings
